Matuskowitz was born Oct. 2, 1915, in Philadelphia, Pa., to John and Charlotte (Pieczyuska) Matuskowitz. She moved to Fairfield in 1920 with her family. She attended grade school at Grasmere School and continued on to Roger Ludlowe High School. During World War II, she joined Chance Vought Aircraft in Bridgeport and build Corsair aircraft for the U.S. Government. Afterwards she was employed by Warner Brothers (ladies garments) in Bridgeport, as a seamstress. She attended the Fashion Institute of Technology and Traphagen School of Design, both in New York City. In the 1960's, until her retirement, she worked in Manhattan as assistant designer for White Stag, Cole of California, Gold Worm and Silver Worm, then for Gant Shirt makers in New Haven.
Matuskowitz was a lifelong Grange member of Greenfield Hill Grange #133 where she was secretary for many years, and also a member of Fairfield County Pomona #9 of the Connecticut State Grange.
Matuskowitz is survived by her sister-in-law, Joseph (Josephine) Mack of Stratford; eight nieces and a nephew; many grandnieces and grandnephews; many friends; and family of Ellington. She was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Adam and Joseph (Mack); and sisters, Charlotte Miller of Fairfield and Irene Snowdon (Ralph) of Southampton, N.J.
Calling hours are Monday, Dec. 16 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Small & Pietras Funeral Home, 65 Elm St., Rockville.
